Market Island: photocard size 55×85mm and printing photocards at home

In development

Market Island is for fans who want to make their own photocards at home. The guides here explain the common 55×85mm photocard size, how much bleed to add, how many cards fit on A4 or US Letter, and how to print at 100% so cards come out the right size. The pocaprint sheet maker is not public yet.

FAQ

What size is a photocard?

Album photocards vary by release, but 55×85mm is the size most DIY makers use. That is close to a credit card (85.60×53.98mm, ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1) but not identical.

What resolution should a photocard image be?

At 300 dpi, 55×85mm is about 650×1004 px; with 3 mm bleed (61×91mm) it is about 720×1075 px. Use at least that to avoid blur.

How many photocards fit on an A4 sheet?

Nine, in a 3×3 portrait grid, when each card has 3 mm bleed and the page keeps 10 mm margins. US Letter fits eight in landscape.

Why do my printed cards come out smaller?

The print dialog is probably set to 'Fit to page'. Choose 'Actual size' or 100% scale.
